Biography
Ajda Jauslin (born 1989 in Ljubljana, Slovenia and based in Basel, Switzerland) began her musical career at the music school in her home town of Logatec, Slovenia, where she started learning the flute and piano at the age of five and the clarinet at the age of eight. After elementary school, she attended the Artistic High School in Ljubljana, majoring in clarinet with Prof. Andrej Zupan. At the age of 16, after passing the entrance examination, she was accepted into Prof. Francois Benda's class at the Basel Music Academy in Switzerland, where she completed her Bachelor's degree in 2009. She continued her studies at the Lucerne University of Music, where she successfully completed her master's degree in clarinet, pedagogy, in the class of Prof. Paolo Beltramini in 2013. Ajda has won numerous clarinet competitions in Slovenia and internationally.
Since her early musical beginnings, Ajda has also shown a special love for singing and composing. She sang at various school events and took part in singing festivals. At the age of 14, she won first prize at the youth singing festival in Postojna. She formed her first girl's trio, with which she recorded her own single in the studio. Her love of singing also accompanied her during her clarinet studies and she discovered jazz music. She had her first singing lessons at the Lucerne University of Music with Bruno Amstad, where she studied jazz singing as a minor subject. After her clarinet studies, Ajda attended the Precollege Program at the Jazzcampus in Basel for one year, where she took singing lessons with Prof. Lisette Spinnler.
Since November 2022, Ajda has been studying for a master's degree in jazz and popular singing at the Kalaidos University of Music in Zurich with Prof. Gabriela Martinez. In addition to her activities as a music teacher (clarinet, singing), Ajda is also active as an artist, singer and songwriter in various formations, including in duo with her husband, jazz pianist Walter Jauslin. Her music presents songs from jazz to pop... Her compositions, however, have their own language which, although partly a mixture of jazz aesthetics and pop culture, stylistically express her own personal colors. These are strongly influenced by her Slovenian roots and of course her Slovenian mother tongue, which she likes to use in her poetic lyrics.
